Cameron must be called to account over UKIP offer

The Times has a report that Lord Pearson offered Cameron through Tory Leader in the House of Lords, Lord Strathclyde, a deal on a referendum on the EU that could have saved the sovereignty AND democracy of Britain, or laid the blame and responsibility for their loss clearly at the feet of the electorate.

Cameron, EU lackey that he is, did not even have the courtesy to offer a reply. If no senior resignations from the Conservatives follow this weekend, especially following the later clarification given by Lord Pearson on the Today programme just now, then the Tories deserve no votes at the next election.

The poll plunge will no doubt continue following Cameron's assertion on the Andrew Marr Show this morning that staying within the EU is one of his basic beliefs. More on that in my blog Ironies Too later today.

In view of the polls the greatest danger now facing the country is Cameron's Conservative Party preparing to accept EU rule under this dreadful advertising man who has not one conservative principle in his make-up. Consider his side-kicks in the party Pickles and Ashcroft, are the shire constituency members or Turnip Taleban as they have been dubbed, really to vote for their imposed candidates?

Andrew Marr and William Hague were jesting about "proconsuls"on Sunday morning, perhaps this is the reason a transcript of the interview has yet to appear on the BBC website. I had been thinking it was as a result of the grilling given Hague by Marr on Ashcroft's tax payments, residency status and promotion prospects together with Hague's disgraceful replies.

Some Conservatives are they not these two? One promoting state interference at every level of society for that is the essence of Cameron's extraordinary speech tonight, while his Deputy, on Sunday, seemed to suggest that whether or not UK taxes were properly paid was a matter of zero concern for a future Foreign Secretary!!

Betraying the Crown

THE Tories are promising a ‘referendum guarantee’ on all future transfers of power to Brussels. If a future government tries to transfer further competences from Britain to the EU, a national referendum would be required by law before it could be ratified. Have they not read the Treaty of Lisbon?

Article 47 gives the EU as a whole a legal personality, so the EU itself can ‘speak with one voice’ to ratify any future treaties on behalf of all 27 countries. This includes the power to go to war.

In the UK, to date, for many things, including the decision to fight wars or to ratify treaties, our Government uses the Royal Prerogative on behalf of the British Crown.

The power of the Crown is held in trust by the executive and passed on to the next government. Article 47 of the Lisbon Treaty means our Government has handed over the Royal Prerogative to foreigners.

Yet the power of the British Crown is the ultimate authority – or sovereignty – behind Parliament, so it is not in the power of the government to give away the Royal prerogative to anyone – and certainly not to foreigners.

By this action, not only our Government, but also the Crown, has been made subservient to the EU.

EU treaties are designed to be permanent, so given that the EU is planning for the next 50 years, the gift of the Royal Prerogative is one which cannot be taken back.

I believe this gift was not in the power of Ministers and that they could, at a future date, be held guilty of sedition against the state.

Is that clear enough for the Tories?

As President Klaus has now signed the Lisbon Treaty and William Hague has confirmed his treachery be appearing on TV to announce there will be no referendum in the UK; we now wait for Dave Cameron tomorrow to confirm all this blog has always leveled at him, since the first moment his name first appeared as a likely contender for the Conservative Party leadership. Read the blog archives to find pretty well every scathing attack on this spineless man which the decent English vocabulary permits.

Now the test is for all other true conservatives and democrats.

We must wait for Cameron's speech before being able to finally judge, how many MP resignations or party whip withdrawals will follow? I bet none!

Sound advice indeed, but is the broader party aware of the problem?

This morning the front page of The Observer targets Lord Ashcroft, with suddenly a link from Conservative Home. Strangely as follows:

Yet no mention, nor link, to another article in the same paper with the headline:

We wait with baited breath for the updating of the Conservative Home blog following the damaging stories and leading article in today's The Independent on the new shareholder in that blog and Chairman of Cameron's Conservative Party, Lord Ashcroft. Read it from here, here and here.

I have sent my own unsolicited advice to Tim Montgomerie on the subject of his blog. I will update developments which could restore hope for a true Conservative Party to re-emerge as they unfold.

I have admired all you have achieved with Conservative Home but surely it is now time to change server to Blogger, which is very effective and requires no backers as it is free.

Conservative Home is Tim Montgomerie, you will be followed by Conservative voters.

The problems for Cameron, Ashcroft and the non-conservative party they have created must be resolved before the election, with Lord Pearson leading UKIP and these revelations in the paper today, a large responsibility has fallen upon your shoulders.

CCHQ has trashed principle after principle in its manipulation of candidate selection

The decision by David Cameron to introduce all women shortlists (AWS) - a move he described as a "step too far" just three years ago - is the latest in a long line of decisions taken by the Tory leadership to control the selection of Tory candidates and has, in the process, eroded key conservative principles.

MERIT

It all began with the A-list. The candidates on the A-list (particularly the female candidates) performed less well in previous election campaigns than the men. 22 of the original A-listers achieved swings above the national average swing of 2.21% and 46 achieved below-average swings. Getting on to the A-list was not a rigorous process with candidates revealing that they faced very different interview processes. Some even had second chances.

Given that 70% of approved candidates are men (and the number of women applying to be Tory candidates was actually falling at one point) there was always an unfairness in half-women shortlists (HWS) - an unfairness that boiled over into rebellion at Dudley North. ConservativeHome warned that HWSs could have a perverse effect. We wrote this in August 2006: "Any attempt to impose half-women shortlists may backfire. Associations may, perversely, think that any woman in the final round is there to make up a quota rather than because of her intrinsic merits." That is exactly what has happened. The proportion of women selected has fallen since HWSs became compulsory.

DEMOCRACY

If Associations refused to accept HWSs they lost the right for all local members to have the final say in candidate selection.

Also under David Cameron's watch ordinary party members lost the right to deselect sitting MEPs. If they had not lost that right we might have seen Edward McMillan-Scott MEP deselected before he caused such trouble for the party since.

Another subversion of democracy was the decision to put women at the top of regional MEP lists even if they received fewer votes than men.

CCHQ expects volunteer activists to devote years of fundraising and envelope-stuffing to the party but they no longer trust them to choose their parliamentary candidates or their MEPs.

SOCIAL JUSTICE

We need more women MPs. We need them on grounds of fairness but also because a debate involving women is richer than one without. We also need more people from public sector backgrounds and people with experience of the voluntary and poverty-fighting sectors. I do not think it is helpful that quite so many Tory MPs are from the City, law, the south and from private schools. True diversity is about more than more women. If diversity was a key aim the criteria for the A-list were too superficial. ConservativeHome's own campaign to help lower income candidates has been consistently overlooked by CCHQ.

TRANSPARENCY

CCHQ tried to keep the A-list secret (something ConHome corrected) but the lesson on transparency was not learnt. CCHQ suppressed the data on membership numbers and turnout during last year's vote on non-incumbent MEP candidates.

LOCALISM

In all of the above the idea that local institutions are instinctively trusted by Team Cameron has been comprehensively trashed.

COURTESY

Throughout the whole process there has been a lack of courtesy to the candidates seeking a seat. They all make enormous sacrifices for the party and pay an annual fee to be on the candidates list but were not informed if they did not get on to second waves of the A-list. A ConHome straw poll found that candidates had to ring CCHQ at least three times before getting their phone calls returned.

CCHQ will justify AWS on the basis that they are necessary to correct an historical wrong. The same arguments have been used for all ethnic minority work contracts in the USA. Are the Conservatives now willing to support such contracts? They have surrendered any principled opposition to them with this decision on AWS.

Cameron should panic on quality of candidates - NOT their sex

The BBC reports that Cameron is once more fretting over the shortage of women and ethnic minorities on the Conservative Party candidate list.

A far greater problem that will cost an avalanche of votes at the next general election is the dishonesty of his sitting MPs AND the refusal to learn from past mistakes in that area by selection of similar candidates for the coming years. Consider these latest two taken from the Candidates section of the Conservative Home blog, linked here:

Oxbridge QC (Blair clone again -Life experience NIL) :

Stephen Phillips QC read Law at Oxford and after a short stint in the Welsh Guards and attending Sandhurst, he was called to the Bar in 1993 and appointed a QC earlier this year. He is also Chairman of the Governors of the only sign-bilingual school in Britain. Douglas Hogg will bequeath a notional majority of 12,687 over Labour. (Sleaford and North Hykeham).

Dr Philip Lee aged 39 and a bit years succeeds the disgraced Andrew Mackay in Bracknell. Another safe seat wasted unless a decent independent can quickly be found.

Dear Mr Cameron,

Although I am not in the Conservative Party, I have always voted for the Conservatives in a General election. However, as the EU instigates so very many of our Laws now and a great deal more should ‘Lisbon’ come into FORCE, we all, even our own MP’s will have to obey, I question why anyone would want to vote for any British political Party that, although elected by the people of this country, to speak for the people, do not do as the people wish. It is well known that the people were promised and should have had a referendum on the very constitutional EU Treaty.

Having just written that, and knowing the contents of that Treaty, I believe anyone that voted for it, may be violating their solemn Oath of Allegiance to the British Crown and the present wearer of it. If I just take the smallest Article (Article 47) in the Treaty of Lisbon, it gives the European Union as a whole, for the very first time, “legal personality” which allows the EU to “speak with one voice” for the whole of the EU on many subjects and at meetings and to ratify Treaties on behalf of all 27 Countries without debates in National Parliaments. War making Power? There is no mention that this is NOT so.

As far as the UK is concerned our Government uses the Royal Prerogative on behalf of the British Crown for many things and particularly, for ratifying Treaties. The power of the Crown is used through the Royal Prerogative. It is held in trust by Government Ministers and to pass on to the next maybe different Government to use. Through Article 47, it means that our Government has given the Royal Prerogative to foreigners to use through the ratification of the Treaty of Lisbon. The power of the British Crown is the ultimate authority (sovereignty) of Parliament and its Treaty making instrument, the Royal Prerogative. It is not in the authority of Government to give away this Royal Prerogative to anyone and certainly not to foreigners, it is not in their ‘gift’ to give, for it belongs to The British Crown.

The Treaty, I believe, is contrary to our own Common law Constitution and Her Majesty’s Coronation Oath, "That no foreign Prince, person, prelate, state, or potentate hath, or ought to have any jurisdiction, power superiority, pre-eminence, or authority, ecclesiastical or spiritual, within this realm, So help me God." ALL our politicians swear a solemn Oath of Allegiance to the Crown and through the Crown to this Country and its people before they can take their seat in Parliament. How then can they ratify Treaties that allows foreigners to ratify Treaties on our behalf, and for all the years to come?

I doubt any of us believe the people will continue voting or paying for a "pretendy" Government for long, especially as time goes by. This is not what we vote for them to do. All three major political parties are presently talking of cuts in spending. Stop paying the billions in “contributions” to the EU and paying the unlimited amounts in “fines” when this once sovereign Government does not always get EU laws right, and then everything will fall into place. Working with others and not ruled by them.

Has Government in ratifying this Treaty revoked the power of the Crown as exercised by Government denying the exclusive authority of the British Government to use the Royal Prerogative in those areas they have agreed to allow the EU to use the powers of the Royal Prerogative in their stead? In the doing, the EU “Binds the Crown and Government”. Not only is our Government made subservient to the EU, the Crown is also by this action. I write

of “The Crown”, for I recognise that the power of the Crown is the ultimate authority (sovereignty) of Parliament and that power, (sovereignty) is used by Government through the Royal Prerogative. It is that sovereign power this Government have given away to the European Union for Article 47. As the EU Treaties are designed for all time and the EU is planning for the next 50 years, it would seem to be a gift of which there is no return, given by a temporary Government, binding every new future Government and future Heirs to the throne. I submit this was not in the gift of ministers and that they could, at a future date, be held guilty of sedition against the State.

I am mindful that it was also the Conservatives that made Her Majesty a Citizen of Europe through the ratification of the Treaty of Maastricht. It is well known that two subjects of Her Majesty tried to bring charges of treason against the Government but it was deemed, as I understand it, by the then Attorney General as ‘not in the public’s interest’ to allow the case. (yet one rule of justice is that no man be judge in his own case, “non judex in causa sua”. However times change, and we also know that “Lisbon” changes (deepens) that EU citizenship, for the Treaty of Lisbon has ‘competence’ over all Nation States’ Constitutions and Laws. However, in spite of the Treaties ratified by this Government, or perhaps because of, if Lisbon goes through without the people having had their say in a referendum, the people’s allegiance to their own Country will become stronger and parts of their own Constitution, Magna Carta and the Declaration and Bill of Rights 1688/9 will eventually be put to the test once more. It does not bode well for future peace.

Not many people have any trust left in Members of our Parliament and even less in the present Government. “Britain will not be bound by Treaties to which the British have not given assent”. That was written by William Reese-Mogg September 13 2009. Should you wish for my vote, I would need a total vow of commitment to hold a referendum whether the Treaty has been ratified or not and the Treaty withdrawn immediately whether all 27 States have ratified it or not. Never in the history of the Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties has anything like this happened before, although a Treaty has been withdrawn once, before all parties ratified. It is however, very questionable if the Treaty of Lisbon complies with the Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties own articles, for the Treaties should be clear and precise in order to be understood by all those to whom it applies. The Treaty of Lisbon is perhaps the most (deliberately) ‘muddled’ EU Treaty of all time and perhaps the last EU Treaty, for its acceptance will finally destroy the self-governing of each Nation State. I await your reply and actions with great interest.

Conservative Home Blog to become the "Belize Bugle"?

The news of another Ashcroft coup was slipped out on the Conservative Home blog on a quiet Sunday, relish the sycophantic comments as the last shred of independence is finally ripped away from a once stimulating website, read it here.

Teetering Tories had better shift up a gear or two as it once again resumes its role as the only real blog with an independent and outside view of the Conservative Party! (Spot Iain Dale's comment in thethread of the above link and note that he too is now in league with the Tory Treasurer).

Finally the absence of conservative principles and policies seems to be coming home to haunt the Tories as now corrupted by Cameron.

Local polls last week as detailed on Conservative Home, linked here, spell out the full disaster where were it not for an ex-Ghurka scraping in by just four votes in a ward in Kent the results would have been a complete whitewash at a time when rumours regarding the health of the universally loathed Prime Minister are sweeping the internet.

Hallow, Malvern Hills LibDems gain from the Tories whose vote was down 16.5 per cent.

Ham, Plymouth Labour hold with a 2.7 per cent vote gain while the Tories lose 15.7 per cent.

Southwick Wiltshire an Independent gains from the Conservative who arrives third behind the LibDem with only 273 votes a fall of 34.3 per cent.

The contempt and insults heaped upon the Speaker of Parliament in various comment threads during the hours following the news that UKIP's Nigel Farage will stand against him at the General Election, appear to now be deservedly also coming the way of the party from which Bercow sprang which Cameron and his clique have so effectively contrived to be effectively bereft of worth.

Conservative Home tries to bury Cameron's Radio Interview

The interview this morning during which the Tory Leader was quizzed on his own mortgage expenses and was evasive in the extreme and finally forced to admit that he would never contemplate leaving the EU was effectively buried by the blog Conservative Home by only mentioning it at the head of a sub-thread with a pointless interview with William Hague.
