What Irony, for as I recorded on this blog of 20th October 2008, it was Wheeler involved in the coup that dumped the last properly elected Tory leader and gave the Conservative Party the disastrous Howard and thereafter his two jumped-up protégés Osborne and Cameron. The post, linked here, mainly quoting a Comment to The Daily Telegraph prior to that paper blacklisting me, stated :

Stuart Wheeler and other shadowy backers of the Conservatives who reportedly forced this man from the party leadership have much to answer for as well.
Now that Mandelson and Campbell are back fully behind the New Labour project the consequences of the Michael Howard leadership will be fully exposed in the next election campaign. The over promotion of George Osborne is only the most obvious aspect of Howard's disastrous tenure.
When the full facts of the manipulated leadership election which put Cameron in position (all chronologically chronicled on my blog Teetering Tories) are properly publicised during the General Election campaign, the Conservatives will be seen to be led by a man with about as much legitimacy as Robert Mugabe has at present - will that help rid the country of New Labour?
At least David Davis has distanced himself from the Cameroons, but IMHO the likes of the author of this article must now also make a political stand!

The truth, Prime Minister, is that you have run out of our money. The country as a whole is now in negative equity. Every British child is born owing around £20,000. Servicing the interest on that debt is going to cost more than educating the child. Now, once again today you try to spread the blame around; you spoke about an international recession, international crisis. Well, it is true that we are all sailing together into the squalls. But not every vessel in the convoy is in the same dilapidated condition. Other ships used the good years to caulk their hulls and clear their rigging; in other words – to pay off debt. But you used the good years to raise borrowing yet further. As a consequence, under your captaincy, our hull is pressed deep into the water line under the accumulated weight of your debt.
We are now running a deficit that touches 10% of GDP, an almost unbelievable figure. More than Pakistan, more than Hungary; countries where the IMF have already been called in.
Now, it’s not that you’re not apologising; like everyone else I have long accepted that you’re pathologically incapable of accepting responsibility for these things. It’s that you’re carrying on, wilfully worsening our situation, wantonly spending what little we have left. Last year - in the last twelve months – a hundred thousand private sector jobs have been lost and yet you created thirty thousand public sector jobs. Prime Minister, you cannot carry on for ever squeezing the productive bit of the economy in order to fund an unprecedented engorgement of the unproductive bit. You cannot spend your way out of recession or borrow your way out of debt. And when you repeat, in that wooden and perfunctory way, that our situation is better than others, that we’re ‘well-placed to weather the storm’, I have to tell you that you sound like a Brezhnev-era apparatchik giving the party line. You know, and we know, and you know that we know that it’s nonsense! Everyone knows that Britain is worse off than any other country as we go into these hard times. The IMF has said so; the European Commission has said so; the markets have said so – which is why our currency has devalued by thirty percent. And soon the voters too will get their chance to say so. They can see what the markets have already seen: that you are the devalued Prime Minister of a devalued government.

A blog sponsored by the Conservative Party should surely not ignore one of the longest running blogs on the internet devoted to the British Conservative Party, namely Teetering Tories which had its first post in October 2003 on the leadership problems of IDS.
I fully understand why Conservative Home as an individual's blog has never linked my blogs but as this is the official party blog surely you should not ignore a specialist, long-standing blog entirely devoted to the policy choices facing the main opposition party within the UK
(Typically for the Tories the e-mail would not send with an overseas post code, I therefore had to manufacture one in the UK format, and these people want to run the country??)

Format Change
I have updated the format of this blog in anticipation of shortly being able to announce that either the Leader of the Party, David Cameron, or his Shadow Chancellor, George Osborne, will shortly mount their first effective attack on the economic policies of the Labour Government over the past 12 years.
I anticipate such an amazing event based on the Ernst & Young ITEM Club report on the economy which effectively states that Britain is now doomed and is surprisingly enough being widely reported, even in the UK, on both radio, TV and the press!!
(Probably have to wait until Monday as I forgot for a moment that Cameron does not do weekends!)

Cameron and the BBC

I mean he will not even be in power this year so what relevance has any proposal he makes for this year?? Why not announce he is reducing road tax?? Why not concentrate on the REAL Crisis as Christina Speight asks in her comment to the Tory Blog quoted here:

Haig and Fox for Cameron
My warnings of MP's opportunism of yesterday (see posting beneath this) were well timed as today's Sunday Times reports both William Haig and Liam Fox today declaring for the empty vessel.
Remember that this is the same William Haig who once commanded respect in the party and country yet without shame wrote in his News of the World column in the early part of this year that he was making far too much money on his US speaking tours to consider an active role either within the party or then certain General Election campaign. What weight should party members put on the recommendation of such a man?
Remember also that the timing of his declaration seems curiously timed to have possibly been made with the advantage of some knowledge of the early voting results, if these are being deliberately slanted by those pulling the party strings, a travesty of democracy could be underway!
If David Cameron is elected, how long will the supposed "stardust on his collar" or as Haig is quoted as saying " “a certain quality which was impossible to define but you know it when you see it” really last. Such qualities are best used by confidence tricksters as far as I can see.

As prospective party leader, Cameron is preparing to help Tony Blair push through a series of public service reforms that, aides say, will keep a “wounded” and “isolated” prime minister in power.
The leadership favourite signalled his support for the government against Labour rebels on greater independence for state schools, city academies, benefit reform, foundation hospitals and more private sector involvement in the National Health Service.
Although he argues that he supports Blair’s modernisation of public services because he believes it is the right thing to do, his aides pointed out it is also designed to have the political effect of making Blair look “isolated” from his party. Tories heading for oblivion?If the headline article in the online edition of the Daily Telegraph is to be believed the Conservative Party is doomed as David Cameron, the media darling who will become its mauled and mangled victim by the next General Election were he to become Party Leader, is reported to have opened an early and large lead over rival David Davis in the leadership contest.
Such are the results of a YouGov poll which has been so manipulatively reported as to condemn the Telegraph to the lowest possible level of even present day journalism. The report may be read from this link.
To try to grasp the degree of distortion it is necessary to recall the basis on which YouGov polls. Anybody can join YouGov and participate in those polls as they may wish. Is it really likely as the report seems to imply that one third of those conservative party members who have already voted are signed up as YouGov contributors. Unlike most polls published as far as I can find there is nowhere any reference to the size of the sample. Just how many conservative party members who have already voted could have been polled - it must be an incredibly small number unless there was some collusion or identification of names of those who had voted from party sources, any names thus provided could then well have been tilted towards the results desired by the Telegraph group owners and editors and/or the party establishment.
Evidence of the desired outcome of the senior party hierarchy comes later in the same report which states:
"Anne Maine, the MP for St Albans, who formerly supported Mr Davis, said she was now backing Mr Cameron, taking his support to 107 MPs - well over half the 198-strong parliamentary party.
Michael Ancram, the party's deputy leader, said the backing of a clear majority of Tory MPs was an important signal to party members."
The Gaderene rush to support the dubious, media reported front-runner by sitting MPs and their European counterparts is understandable when looking at the calibre and motives of the present elected party and remembering that were Cameron to win at only 39 years of age and given his apparent lack of policies and therefore presumably either character or principles, future advancement within the party is likely to be lost pretty much forever as far as the present entire elected members are concerned.
The announcement by the comparatively youthful Owen Paterson MP for David Davis is particularly commendable in this regard.
This blog quite correctly predicted the outcome of a Michael Howard leadership takeover - I feel equally certain that if the Tories go for Cameron then it will be the end of their party. How best to then restore decency and democracy to British politics will then become an even trickier problem.

Is Cameron obsessed with the Scots?
The following is from a BBC report last weekend:
"If we win the next election at Westminster, we would govern with a maturity and a respect for the Scottish people," Mr Cameron added.
"I would be a prime minister that would work constructively with any administration at Holyrood for the good of Scotland and I would be in regular contact with the first minister, no matter what party he or she came from."

Upon what planet dwells Bruce Anderson?
He moves from failing publication as regularly as the seasons and the garbage he puts out rarely ceases to amaze, yet this morning in The Independent he came out with this on David Cameron:
"At the moment, despite three successful years during which he has regularly demonstrated his courage"
Is there a single living soul within the UK who can honestly state that they believe David Cameron has any courage whatsoever let alone the first idea as to what should be done to set the country on a course that might solve the present problems? I doubt it!

Cameron warns of National Bankruptcy - WHY ONLY NOW?

WHY? Only now? The task of an opposition is to frame policies for problems ahead. Many, including this blogger, have seen this coming for years!
Why? Progessive, code word for the cause of the problem? In the same article Cameron refers to "Progressive Conservatism". I quote the extraordinary passage which proves him unfit for either the party or the post he holds within it:
"Progressive conservatism" was best placed to address the problems of social exclusion, he said. It would also help build a better civic society, address the economic problems the country faces, and protect public services.
My blog "Ironies Too" will continue to spell out the alternative way forward, which alone can return the nation to prosperity. Among the essentials - a return of assets today being squandered by the EU, individual responsibility, parliamentary democracy and rooting out greed and punishing the exploiters of recent years.

Mr Cameron stressed the party currently opposed coal-fired power stations - but told the audience that with an energy gap looming, new ways had to be found to satisfy demand.
If technology was fitted to power stations that allowed carbon capture, then Britain should be "leading the way", he said.
"We have to accept there is a looming energy gap developing in our country because North Sea gas is running down and the nuclear power stations are coming to the end of their life, yet energy demand continues to grow," he said.
"Our view is that they should not build new coal-fired power stations unless they are fitted with experimental technology for carbon capture and storage [and] to make sure the technology works."
But he added: "It is exciting technology because it may be that if you can get that technology working, you can have coal-fired power stations that are clean. In Britain, we should be leading the way on this.
"One of the difficulties with capturing carbon and storing it is where you put it. In the North Sea, the depleted North Sea gas fields are the perfect place to put it and indeed pumping it into those fields may help you to recover more gas and oil out of them."Conservatives are against new nuclear power stations, admit North Sea Gas and Oil are running out but would only approve coal fired stations with "experimental technology" which by definition might not work all of which leads to a cold dark future.Perhaps we could burn Zac and the Shadow Cabinet they are so full of hot air they might last for a while!

One voice of sanity - John Redwood MP
Probably the sole figure in Parliament with the ideas and intellect to guide Britain through the coming period of depression is the MP for Wokingham who I urged to stand for the Tory leadership when IDS was ousted by the clique of conservative cash-rich clots. He declined correctly being aware he stood no chance in that party of the blind and blinkered.
Writing in today's Sunday Telegraph, linked here, the grass roots of the party can see what they have missed die to the blind prejudices of their elected parliamentary members. A quote:

We should remember the origins of our problem. The Monetary Policy Committee kept interest rates too low for too long. The banking regulator allowed banks to balloon their balance sheets and supplement this excessive lending with off-balance-sheet devices that came to haunt them in the bad times. The economy ran faster than could be comfortably handled, leading to a large balance-of-payments deficit as we sucked in what we could not produce at home, and a large private sector borrowing binge. Asset prices escalated giddily on the back of easy money. Homes became unaffordable without taking on a huge mortgage, which would prove too burdensome come higher interest rates or job loss. Once the authorities called time on excessive debt, there was bound to be a downturn. Their decisions to hold rates too high for too long, and then to require banks to hold more capital and cash to support their lending when we were well into the downturn, made the problem considerably worse.
I argued strongly for lower interest rates a year ago to take the edge off the coming decline. I argued against nationalising banks. I would have kept them in business by having the Bank of England act as lender of last resort, providing cash and loans against proper security, and offering stronger deposit guarantees when needed. The aim should be to see them through, with their shareholders and senior executives taking all the hit for past mistakes. The government's role towards the banks should be that of the intelligent bank manager, not the owner needing profit and access to cheap cash for himself.
Please read it all, then get on the telephone or e-mail the party and make clear that as Mr Redwood cannot replace David Cameron absent resignation, then at the very least Cameron should replace Osborne with Redwood. At least one front bench will then have a member who understands the current crippling reality!(Post copied on Teetering Tories)

Cameron awash!
Yesterday's PMQ's amply proved that the sixty thousand pounds budgeted for trying to eradicate vermin from the Palace of Westminster has been totally wasted, for yesterday at PMQ there they all still sat. The hopelessness is partially summed up by Simon Carr in today's Independent, here, which concludes:

Cameron can't create a Tory war of words that makes everyone feel comfortable and Gordon look ridiculous. The Prime Minister is clearly raving but his world has an internal logic. "Helping people fairly through difficult times" may act as an emetic on many people but what's the Tory equivalent?
It is the persistent theme of Tories in opposition. Insufficient thinking. This recession wasn't unexpected. How were they planning to deal with it? They weren't. They just expected it to destroy the Prime Minister (and they still do).

PROBLEM!
The David Cameron Conservative Party, as this blog has repeatedly stressed is the fabrication of this same Michael Howard - it was he, indeed, who first promoted the inadequate George Osborne to the post of Shadow Chancellor David Cameron by methods deemed unacceptable to standard fair election practises across the world, as laid down by Michael Howard, then duly followed.
Now the main opposition party descends into a furore of corruption allegations of the gravest possible nature at the very moment when the country stands on the brink of chaos, read elsewhere in today's Telegraph of the resignation of the SAS regiment's leader in Afghanistan from here, and economic ruination .... read everywhere!
